Congratulations to White Stone, NY resident Diana DeSantis for winning first place in our juried art competition Long Island, Natural Wonder for her oil pastel, Bird Watchers at Jones Beach.

Other awards in the competition went to Al Candia of Stony Brook, who took second place for his oil painting titled Birch Trees, and Barbara Moehler of Hampton Bays, third place winner for her oil painting Shinnecock Fishing Fleet at Home.

Three honorable mention awards went to Stan Mehlman of Huntington Station for his photograph Osprey, Jeannette Dick of Port Jefferson for her oil pastel Conscience Point ‘Like Glass,’ and Arthur Bernstein of Setauket for his black walnut sculpture titled Growth Form.

All finalists’ entries in the competition will be on display in the museum Visitors Center through June 24 and the six winning entries will be in the Art Museum, along with the Long Island in Bloom exhibition, from June 29 through July 8.

Located at 1200 Route 25A in Stony Brook, the Long Island Museum is a Smithsonian affiliate, dedicated to American history and art with a Long Island connection.  The museum is open Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m and Sunday from noon to 5.  Regular admission is $9 per person, $7 for seniors and $4 for students ages six to 17.  Children under six and museum members are free.
